*******************************
* THE SHROPSHIRE COLLECTION *
* Body text typefaces for *
* TIMEWORKS DTP or GDOS *
* Screen and Printer *
* for the ATARI ST or STE *
*******************************
The fonts on this disc have been selected, edited and collated
primarily to be used with one exception [SYMBOLS] as body text
typefaces and include printer fonts at 180,300 and 360 dpi for
24 pin Dot Matrix, Laser/DeskJet, and Bubble Jet Printers. The
screen fonts are 80x80, 80x40, 90x90 and 90x45dpi., for Time-
works DTP high resolution (80x80), medium resolution (80x40),
GEM/GDOS use high resolution (90x90) and medium resolution (90x45).
As the collator of these fonts I claim no credit for the design
or excellence of the typefaces, the credit belongs to the authors
and in many cases to Alphatype CRS Digital Typesetter.
My only claim to fame is the time and work of collecting the
typefaces and for editing them, sometimes from odd resolutions and
then presenting them to ST users as a public domain offering.
The font files are compressed with the exception of some 8 and 10
point files which cannot be compressed. Editing was via Jeremy
Hughes Fontkit Plus program and have been extracted from various
Public Domain discs. They have then been edited and
in most cases scaled to provide four point sizes. (8, 10, 12
and 14).

The fonts must be expanded before use this is achieved by using
the program in the GFU folder included on this disc.
The medium resolution fonts may look distorted especially the
smaller point sizes when displayed on the screen because of the
lack of definition, but will print out OK. The files have not
received the same attention as the printer and high resolution
fonts but are included to cater for ST users who do not possess
a high resolution screen.
The Identification numbers (ID's) of the fonts have been set below
127 and so meet the criteria of TIMEWORKS DTP version 1.12 which
expects ID's to be numbered less than 127. The ID's have been
chosen so as not to duplicate the fonts provided in the TIMEWORKS
package.
TIMEWORKS version 1.12 requires the font files to be added to the
assign.sys file in ascending order of ID number but, Publisher 2
is less demanding in this respect so fonts can be added to the
assign.sys file in any order.
The font naming convention follows that recommended by Fontkit and
David Smith's book "A Users' Guide to TIMEWORKS Desktop Publisher"
available from the ST Club. i.e. xxyyyyzz.FNT
xx = the screen or printer resolutions
H2 = 80X80 high resolution screen [TIMEWORKS]
L2 = 300x300dpi printer
M2 = 80x40 medium resolution screen [TIMEWORKS]
H3 = 90x90 high resolution screen
M3 = 90x45 medium resolution screen
Q1 = 180x180dpi 24 pin dot matrix printer
Q2 = 360x360dpi bubble jet printer
yyyy = an abbreviated name of the typeface
zz = the point size
FNT = the extender
The fonts must be loaded into the GEMSYS folder of TIMEWORKS
programs where the screen fonts are 80x80 or 80x45 dpi although I
have successfully used them at 90x90 and then the font file
name to be added to the assign.sys file.
When loading into Publisher 2 it is not necessary to follow the GEM\3
naming convention as Publisher 2 will recognise FNT as a
legal extender.

REMEMBER: AFTER LOADING THE FONTS INTO TIMEWORKS
DTP OR PUBLISHER 2 GEMSYS FOLDER AND ADDING THE
FONT FILE NAMES TO THE ASSIGN.SYS FILE TO RESET
THE COMPUTER AND RUN FONTWID.PRG.
